Discover the shoegaze-pop of the fascinating New Zealander...

With Tender New Signs (2010) and The Waves (2012), Tamaryn positioned herself as a major player in the field of shoegaze, thanks to her penchant for strongly Cocteau Twins indebted sounds… On her newest longplayer, Cranekiss, we navigate the realm of dreamy pop that has become synonymous with the 1980s, most particularly the iconic new wave of vintage era 4AD. Yet, the comparison with the charismatic Cocteau Twins is made principally on grounds of the strength of the music; Tamaryn's voice is, to these ears, about as heavenly as the soaring tones of her predecessor, Liz Fraser... So, Cranekiss is a work of substance, a great success for the New Zealand based songstress, gliding by on the strength of its melodies. It packs a multitude of enduring refrains; often more pop than wilfully obtuse. It is these qualities which have led us to the conclusion that Cranekiss is Tamaryn's best album yet.
