These Frenchies who are frustrated for not being born the other side of the Atlantic often wreck havoc via tiring phonographic masquerades. But when they started to show their teeth in Autumn 2007 with their impeccable Gee Whiz But This Is A Lonesome Town, those unfamiliar with Moriarty gave them hope. Admittedly the band is not 100% Welsh but French/American instead. Carried by the delightful voice of Rosemary Standley, this impeccable troop of travellers perform joyous folk and vintage country that has always unfurled with a completely original western European sound. A series of skits with pocket watches, lace dresses, cabaret boots, campfire harmonicas and wooden guitars… No better a way to blow out their ten candles than with a live album, the stage having always played a key role in the universe of the group. In 24 tracks, Echoes From The Borderline displays the path already well-trodden by Moriarty. With this group, the melodies come with a sepia twinge, like musical paintings of an America bygone. And the folk, blues and country find in the singers voice a filter of real grace. The ideas may be old, but the music remains very modern. For Moriarty tells stories… Raging concert performances, special guest appearances , previously unpublished songs, primitive acoustic sessions and electric experimentations, this record is also accompanied by a wonderful digital album booklet full of Zim Moriarty’s silver photography taken throughout the tour, bearing witness to the places they passed through, the people they crossed, the concerts and audiences and life on the road, all captured through the lens of his Leica.
