LOVEBITES

Lovebites is a heavy metal band from Tokyo, Japan, where the all-female group formed in 2016. Bassist Miho and drummer Haruna had previously performed together in Destrose, a pioneering, female-led metal band that charted three Top 10 singles on the Oricon Indies chart during the early 2010s. After Destrose's breakup, the two began rehearsing with a new lineup that featured guitarist Midori, keyboardist Miyako, and vocalist Asami, and the group adopted the name "Lovebites" after performing Halestorm's "Love Bites (So Do I)" in practice one day. The Lovebites EP was released in 2017, reaching Number 27 on the Oricon Albums chart and paving the way for the full-length album Awakening from Abyss, which charted at Number 18 in Japan that year. Named "Best New Band" at the Metal Hammer Golden Gods Awards in 2018, Lovebites released two projects — the EP Battle Against Damnation, which peaked at Number 20, and the album Clockwork Immortality, which hit Number 21 — during the latter half of the year. Electric Pentagram reached Number 19 in 2020, marking the band's first Top 20 success in Japan and spawning the hit single "Golden Destination." Lovebites' fourth album, Judgement Day, reached Number 5 in 2023, marking a new commercial peak for the group.
