Laurence Nerbonne

Laurence Nerbonne hails from Gatineau, Quebec, where the Canadian pop artist was born on March 24, 1985. Before establishing her own version of electropop music as a solo artist, she performed with the band Hôtel Morphée during the early 2010s, handling vocal, guitar, and violin duties on albums like Des Histoires De Fantômes and Rêve Américain. She left the group during the decade's middle half and began recording XO, which marked her solo debut upon its release in 2016. The album brought her critical acclaim, as well as the SOCAN Songwriting Prize for the song "Rêves d’été" in 2016 and a Juno Award for "Francophone Album of the Year" in 2017. Feu, her sophomore release, arrived in 2019, introducing elements of hip-hop to her sound. Meanwhile, she continued working professionally as a visual artist, too, developing a signature style rooted in acrylics. Returning to her music, she earned a hit with "Danser A Contretemps," which peaked at number 41 on Billboard's Adult Contemporary Songs chart in Canada. A French-language album, OMG, followed in 2021, featuring songs like "Porto Rico" and "Première ministre." Like the record before it, OMG incorporated rap into its pop-oriented sound. After writing the film score to the 2022 film Niagara, Nerbonne returned to the Billboard charts in 2023 with "Rainbow," which debuted at number 29 on Canada's Adult Contemporary Songs chart that summer.
