Jillette Johnson

Singer/songwriter Jillette Johnson makes melodic, ruminative contemporary pop largely centered around her resonant vocals and classically influenced piano playing. Johnson first garnered attention playing in New York City, where she released her 2013 debut, Water in a Whale. Since relocating to Nashville, she has continued to expand her approach, further embracing a classic pop and folk aesthetic, as on 2017's All I Ever See in You Is Me and 2021's '70s-influenced It's a Beautiful Day and I Love You. Born in 1989 in California, Johnson grew up in Pound Ridge, New York, and first began playing piano when she was five years old. By age 12, she was already performing her own songs locally. She eventually moved to New York City and released her debut EP, Whiskey & Frosting, in 2012. A year later, she made her full-length debut with Water in a Whale, which was produced by Peter Zizzo and Michael Mangini. Over the next few years, she stayed busy touring alongside Mary Lambert, Delta Rae, O.A.R., Marc Broussard, and others. Johnson also briefly moved to Los Angeles before settling permanently in Nashville. It was there that she recorded her sophomore album, 2017's Dave Cobb-produced All I Ever See in You Is Me. Anchored by the song "Love Is Blind," it featured a more stripped-down, live sound than her debut. Following tours with Parker Millsap and Penny & Sparrow, Johnson returned with her third album, 2021's It's a Beautiful Day and I Love You. Produced by Joe Pisapia, the record found her drawing inspiration from songwriters like Joni Mitchell and Patty Griffin.
