C'est une idée ambitieuse qu'a eue Julie Zenatti, que celle de fédérer des interprètes connus et de générations différentes autour d'un répertoire de sensibilité méditerranéenne. Pour la soutenir dans cette entreprise, une dizaine d'artistes emblématiques ont répondu à l'appel, offrant un panorama musicalement varié entre les sources arabe, corse, égyptienne ou même grecque.
L'initiatrice du projet Méditerranéennes (Ici ou Là-Bas) donne elle-même le ton avec trois titres chantés en arabe (« L'Amoureuse de Casbah (Abdel Kader) », réunissant un large collectif dont Rose), en français (« Je dis aime », en compagnie de Lina El Arabi et « Sad » avec Samira Brahma) ou en hébreu (« Avinu Malkeinu », avec Isulatine). Partageant une partie du recueil avec Chimène Badi, les deux chanteuses ouvrent le bal sur « Amal (Fortes d'espérer) », à la tonalité féministe, puis se retrouvent sur « Zina (Ici ou là-bas) » et « Au café des délices ».
C'est encore Julie Zenatti qui donne la réplique à Enrico Macias sur « Adieu mon pays » et au jeune Claudio Capéo sur « Sparring Partner », tandis que Slimane chante « Mon amie la rose » avec Lina El Arabi. Cette dernière la rejoint sur « Mustapha », fêté en trio avec Nawel Ben Kraiem, qui entonne « La Maritza » de Sylvie Vartan avec Elisa Tovati.
Après un passage en solo de Chimène Badi pour « Ssendu », les trios reprennent de plus belle : la meneuse de la bande s'entoure de Nawel Ben Kraiem et Sofia Essaïdi sur « Beautiful Tango » et Samira Brahmia et Elisa Tovati sur « L'Exil (Dromoi Pou Agapisa) ». Les arrangements aux influences andalouses, arabes et françaises sont à l'image d'un disque familial et cosmopolite qui se clôt en duo. Main dans la main, Julie Zenatti et Samira Brahmia interprètent avec malice le magnifique « Et si en plus y'a personne » d'Alain Souchon.
