Eine Buffa Goethes in Wagner-Länge – konnte das gut gehen? Noch dazu mit bloß drei Darstellern? Doch die so spritzige wie zynisch-böse Erbschaftskomödie „Scherz, List und Rache“, vom Dichterfürsten höchstselbst und dem von ihm damals bevorzugten Komponisten, seinem Jugendfreund Philipp Christoph Kayser, aufs Streckbett von vier Stunden gespannt, konnte in dieser Hinsicht nie ausgetestet werden.
Sie wurde erst mit Verspätung von zweihundert Jahren uraufgeführt – und zwar 1993 im Liebhabertheater der Frau von Stein auf Schloß Kochberg bei Weimar; der Musikwissenschaftler und Dirigent Herrmann Dechant, der das Stück in der Zürcher Zentralbibliothek entdeckt hatte, wollte dem Publikum Wagner-Längen wohl nicht zumuten, weshalb er die Super-Buffa zurechtkürzte. Das Werk ist weniger deutsches Singspiel (trotz einiger Reminiszenzen an Mozarts „Entführung“); eher nach Art einer intelligenten Commedia dell ̓arte mit „togue in cheek“, aber auch seriösen Intarsien gefertigt – und zugleich musikalisch voller überraschender Ideen. Wobei es sich durchaus als Zeitgenosse der Zukunft geriert und bereits die Frühromantik und Weber vorwegnimmt.
Der Barockspezialist Werner Ehrhardt hat für die halbszenische Aufführung im Vorjahr in Leverkusen und die damit verbundene Einspielung mit seinem Ensemble „l ̓arte del mondo“ eine eigene, etwas über zweistündige Version erstellt und mit drei jungen, doch versierten und engagierten Solisten (dem flinken, auch dramatisch potenten Sopran Annika Boos, dem Tenor Cornel Frey sowie dem jugendlich-frischen Bariton Florian Götz) besetzt. Eine Entdeckung, die Freude macht.

Eine Buffa Goethes in Wagner-Länge – konnte das gut gehen? Noch dazu mit bloß drei Darstellern? Doch die so spritzige wie zynisch-böse Erbschaftskomödie „Scherz, List und Rache“, vom Dichterfürsten höchstselbst und dem von ihm damals bevorzugten Komponisten, seinem Jugendfreund Philipp Christoph Kayser, aufs Streckbett von vier Stunden gespannt, konnte in dieser Hinsicht nie ausgetestet werden.
Sie wurde erst mit Verspätung von zweihundert Jahren uraufgeführt – und zwar 1993 im Liebhabertheater der Frau von Stein auf Schloß Kochberg bei Weimar; der Musikwissenschaftler und Dirigent Herrmann Dechant, der das Stück in der Zürcher Zentralbibliothek entdeckt hatte, wollte dem Publikum Wagner-Längen wohl nicht zumuten, weshalb er die Super-Buffa zurechtkürzte. Das Werk ist weniger deutsches Singspiel (trotz einiger Reminiszenzen an Mozarts „Entführung“); eher nach Art einer intelligenten Commedia dell ̓arte mit „togue in cheek“, aber auch seriösen Intarsien gefertigt – und zugleich musikalisch voller überraschender Ideen. Wobei es sich durchaus als Zeitgenosse der Zukunft geriert und bereits die Frühromantik und Weber vorwegnimmt.
Der Barockspezialist Werner Ehrhardt hat für die halbszenische Aufführung im Vorjahr in Leverkusen und die damit verbundene Einspielung mit seinem Ensemble „l ̓arte del mondo“ eine eigene, etwas über zweistündige Version erstellt und mit drei jungen, doch versierten und engagierten Solisten (dem flinken, auch dramatisch potenten Sopran Annika Boos, dem Tenor Cornel Frey sowie dem jugendlich-frischen Bariton Florian Götz) besetzt. Eine Entdeckung, die Freude macht.
