À propos

Within a Song est un album qui rend hommage à l'esprit de découverte qui animait le jazz des années 60. Le guitariste John Abercrombie a été influencé par Miles Davis, John Coltrane, Bill Evans, Ornette Coleman, Sonny Rollins, et Jim Hall. « C'était la musique qui me parlait et qui m'a tout de suite semblé familière comme si je trouvais un deuxième chez-moi». Le groupe a été constitué spécifiquement pour cet enregistrement au Studio Avatar de New York. Joe Lovano est un partenaire idéal pour Abercrombie, tous les deux arrivent à exprimer magnifiquement l'âme de ces classiques du jazz moderne. Parmi les thèmes abordés : trois compositions d'Abercrombie, Blues Connotation d'Ornette Coleman, Wise One de John Coltrane, Interplay de Bill Evans..
