Terje Rypdal était véritablement novateur à la guitare dans les années 70. Ce coffret de la série Old & New Masters comprend les deux vinyles d’Odyssey – depuis longtemps attendus par les fans du musicien et que l’on trouve pour la première fois dans leur intégralité avec l’épique thème Rolling Stone. Le deuxième opus, Unfinished Highballs, est une archive récemment exhumée d’un enregistrement radio du guitariste norvégien de son quartet Odyssey avec le Swedish Radio Jazz Group. On y retrouve les éléments précurseurs du style intrépide de ce guitariste qui déjà, que ce soit dans son travail de composition ou de performance scénique, cherchait un moyen d’inclure plutôt que d’exclure.
