À propos

Trois brèves tranches de vie du sacré au profane. Le premier volet du Triptyque (Il Trittico en italien) décrit un drame de la jalousie ordinaire dans le Paris des péniches et des guinguettes des bords de Seine, si cher à Simenon, et que Puccini décrit de manière très réaliste. Le deuxième évoque les extases mystiques et la rédemption par la mort d'une bonne soeur dans un couvent de Sienne et le troisième est une joyeuse comédie, sorte de rigolade macabre autour d'un personnage truculent, Gianni Schicchi, qui va se moquer de toute une famille cupide et avide. Lorin Maazel fait éclater le génie de l'orchestre puccinien avec une distribution de rêve, du Luigi viril et borné de Placido Domingo à la touchante soeur Angélique de Renata Scotto, en passant par la terrifiante Principessa de Marylin Horne, de la rouée Lauretta de Ileana Cotrubas jusqu'au drôlissime et habile Gianni Schicchi, incarné par un Tito Gobbi grandiose dans un de ses ultimes enregistrements.
