Lady Ponce

Hailed as "the Queen of Bikutsi," Lady Ponce is a Cameroonian artist known for her rhythmic form of West-Central African music. She was born as "Adèle Ruffine Ngono" in Mbalmayo, Cameroon, on July 24, 1983. She began singing with a Yaoundé-based choir, Chapelle d’Essos, as a teenager. Her debut album, Le ventre et le bas-ventre, was released in 2007 and became a hit in Africa, winning Lady Ponce awards for "Best Voice" and "Musical Revelation of the Year" at the Canal 2'Or Awards. One year later, she won two additional awards from Canal 2'Or: "Best Song" (for "Treason") and "Best Female Artist of the Year." Albums like 2009's gold-certified Confession, 2011's La loi du talion, and 2012's Bombe atomique were similarly popular, earning a handful of nominations from Canal 2'Or and producing popular singles like "Pipiyou" and "Secouer Secouer." Additionally, Lady Ponce was named "Best Female Artist - Central Africa" and "Best Female Artist – Religious Music" at the KORA All Africa Music Awards in 2012 and received the Order of Valour from Cameroon's longtime president, Paul Biya, two years. Continuing to tour nationally and internationally, she released Bain de sons in 2015, Patrimoine in 2017, and Suprême in 2020.
