Michel Godard est un musicien de jazz fortement influencé par la musique baroque, et Monteverdi l'accompagne dans son travail d'improvisateur, par ses mélodies et ses audaces harmoniques. Pour son troisième album chez Carpe Diem, il a réuni un trio baroque composé de la soprano Guillemette Laurens, Fanny Pacoud (violon) et Bruno Helstroffer (théorbe) et un trio de jazz composé de l'incroyable chanteur sarde Gavino Murgia, Steve Swallow à la basse, ainsi que lui-même au serpent. Les deux trios, l'un féminin et aérien, l'autre masculin et terrien, se répondent en jeux de miroirs, et les voix et les instruments se rencontrent si bien que l'on se sait plus distinguer l'ancien du moderne, le baroque du jazz.
