Timmy Trumpet

Australian DJ and instrumentalist Timmy Trumpet crafts dynamic, progressive house music that he often accents with his trumpet playing. Over the course of the 2010s, he issued a steady string of hard-hitting, club-friendly anthems, most notably his multi-platinum 2014 smash "Freaks." Following several club singles, Trumpet released his very first full-length album, Mad World, in 2020. In 2022, his song "Narcos" (a collab with Blasterjaxx) landed on the Top 20 of the dance charts after it gained popular use as "walk out" music with several Major League Baseball players. He has remained a club and festival favorite, as evidenced by Tomorrowland 2022: Timmy Trumpet at Mainstage, Weekend 1 and his 2023 single with Alle Farben "Good Morning." Born Timothy Jude Smith in Sydney in 1982, he began playing trumpet at age four and initially attended the Sydney Conservatorium of Music, where he received classical instruction. After being thrown out for a prank, however, he transferred to a public high school and became increasingly involved with jazz. Although Smith's trumpet ability predicted a performance career, it was dance music and not jazz that ultimately grabbed his interest. Around 2001, billing himself as Timmy Trumpet, he began combining his skills as a DJ and trumpeter, a sound that caught audiences' attention in such EDM hot spots as Ibiza and London. Trumpet went on to produce tracks for such labels as PACHA, Ministry of Sound, and One Love, and performed with similarly inclined electronic acts like the Stafford Brothers, Swedish House Mafia, Armin Van Buuren, and more. He has had several Top Ten singles on the Aria Club Chart, including his 2011 collaboration with DJ Tenzin, "Horny," which reached number five. In 2014, his single "Freaks" featuring rapper Savage, hit number one in New Zealand, and eventually went six times platinum in Australia and triple platinum in New Zealand. For the remainder of the 2010s, Smith continued to issue singles, hitting the charts with 2015's "Hipsta," 2016's "Party Till We Die," 2017's "Deja-Vu," and 2019's "World at Our Feet." Also in 2019, he became the first trumpet player to perform in zero gravity while participating in World Club Dome "Zero Gravity 2.0," a partnership between the European Space Agency and German events company BigCityBeats. Along the way, he also collaborated with such artists as Andrew W.K., Hardwell, Steve Aoki, and Dimitri Vegas & Like Mike. In 2020, after over a decade on the scene, Smith issued his first full-length, Mad World. The set included the singles "911" with R3HAB, "Up & Down" with Vengaboys, and a cover of "Mad World" with Gabry Ponte handling vocals. The following year, he launched a vlog channel on YouTube, documenting his life and tour experiences. At the same time, he began helming his SINPHONY radio show and video stream, playing his own tracks and other EDM songs. In 2021, he released "Anita," a collaboration with Armin van Buuren. A year later, he delivered the live album Tomorrowland 2022: Timmy Trumpet at Mainstage, Weekend 1. In 2022, "Narcos" (a collaboration with Blasterjaxx originally released in 2017) reached number 18 on Billboard's Hot Dance/Electronic Songs chart after it was used by two Major League Baseball teams: as walk-out music for New York Metz closer Edwin Diaz and Atlanta Braves catcher William Contreras. Another stand-alone single, "Good Morning" with Alle Farben, arrived in June 2023.
